Hello Crowdholders,

The market is hard to predict as we all know. With thousands of altcoins and many tokens being traded through speculation, we always wonder which projects are truly engaged with their development.

When we look at the top 100 tokens on CMC, the lowest market cap on that list is at $34 million. Out of these top 100 tokens, 41 of them are erc20 Dapps built upon Ethereum. By ranking the top 100 Dapp tokens built upon a governing blockchain system (not the blockchain coin itself), a staggering 90 tokens are Ethereum based.

These facts show Ethereum has a majority market share within the industry, but there is more striking information when you look at the number of developers active within the industry.

Within the opensource development community, Ethereum has 4 times more developers than the next eco-system, which is Bitcoin.

Ethereum represents 18% of the total blockchain space with 1,243 active monthly developers. This was recently presented from a June 2019 report by Electric Capital

Make sure to do your homework, but case in point, where developers go, sounds like where the market goes.

Questions to consider:

  • Will Ethereum continue its dominance?
  • Is there a blockchain you feel someday will rise above Ethereum?
  • Anything you want to add over this subject?

Thanks! We look forward to reading your comments.

Cheers,

Crowdholding Team

Absolutely Ethereum will continue dominating. There are so many different ways to use it & the transition to proof of stake coming through will make it an even better coin for HODLers. Such a transition will bring more value to the coin.

I find it difficult to believe that any other coin/token will rise above Ethereum, at least not any time soon. Eventually, there may be a few contenders, but right now Ethereum can be used to buy many things, play games, build upon with so many different tokens & it has a lot of versatility.

I am looking forward to finding out what other ways Ethereum can be used in the future. With the transition to proof of stake, the vcalue will rise drastically, I'm sure. Simply holding the coin will be equivalent to putting your money in an interest-accruing account. I'm very excited!

Will Ethereum continue its dominance?
According to me, yes. In the few next years, Ethereum will at least keep this part of dominance (in developper's community, usage).
Ethereum is on the way to solve scalability issues (more and more transaction after the last forks, around 12 seconds between each blocks)
dApp, Web3 browser and ERC20 tokens and ERC721 (Non-Fungible Tokens like cryptokitties) will explode in next years.
Is there a blockchain you feel someday will rise above Ethereum ?
Maybe EOS.IO, they rise a lot of money ($4 billions without products) for development, and it also has the smartcontract feature and no gas for transaction, can be an ethereum challenger/killer, but too much centralized around few nodes.
Anything you want to add over this subject?
Decentralized finance (DeFi) will bring a lot of traction to crypto and especially Ethereum.

Will Ethereum continue its dominance?
I think so, at least for the next five years. Today, the cryptocurrencies that are on the top are very consolidated. There was a moment when it seemed that the second Ethereum and Ripple plate were in dispute, but finally, ETH showed its strength and solidity. I don't see their dominance waning today.

Is there a blockchain you feel someday will rise above Ethereum?
I don't think so, as I argued the previous answer, this one is a bit linked. ETH has become the favourite for tokens and this gives it a lot of strength, it is difficult for any other blockchain to reach such numbers.

Anything you want to add over this subject?
Not right now, nothing relevant. Just lots of strength and luck!

Interesting facts about Ethereum, I did not realize it has such big dominance.

Future is unfortunately impossible to see, but my guess would be that sooner or later some other blockchain will emerge, which will rise above Ethereum. Like all things I believe also Ethereum has it's living cycle...first growth, than declination and in the end death.

Of course much depends on developers and on general situation in crypto/blockchain. At present there are many scammers out there, so I believe some kind of regulation is absolutely necessary to reach mass adoption and acceptance.

I think Ethereum will remain where it is. Maybe there is a little place to grow but we will see.

since there are more and more program building on the eth network daily i will say that eth will continue to dominate the usage chain and the blockchain technology, but since Bitcoin is mainly for transactions it will still dominate in terms of price so somehow these two are very parallel to each other.

i can't say i know of any know that will overtake eth in some years time since most of the others are still new i take that eth will still continue to dominate in a long time coming.

for now, i will say that new projects should focus on creating value other than just trying to make money so that with this these projects can last longer because due to a lot of failed projects in the blockchain system it is very discouraging to new investors and users.

Hello. Yes, I think that in the foreseeable future, Ethereum will continue to grow in value, benefit other projects and will continue to increase its dominance in the cryptocurrency market.

As for the other blockchain, I think over time it will level or not be much lower than the Universa blockchain. The transaction speed in it is much higher and faster, low fees, and smart contracts that allow you to transfer many areas of real life to the blockchain.

At present, the cryptocurrency market is still rather weak, there are many scammers in the field of ICO, a lot of legislative base is being created, many regulators have come. But sooner or later it should end and then worthy, strong players will remain on the market, with a truly valuable product, whose tokens will have value and usefulness for society.

from the look of things here more things has to be done to maintain the value of the site, recently through comment is now becoming a major challenge here on crowd holding, because a lot of comments are becoming very irrelevant to the topic or spam. something has to be done urgently because you guys will not feel it now but this can be the slow death to the integrity of the site. pls and pls let us try to use this community respectfully.

Just a common Crypto enthusiast.. Wait crypto is not common it's special :)

I personally think the future of crypto adoption and growth will be driven primarily by Bitcoin and Ethereum. They are the 2 most popular coins in the market but that's where the similarity ends.

  • Dominance- If we talk purely in terms of market capitalization then ETH has a long way to go before it can rival BTC, however we need to consider the user adoption as wel.. If you go to any crypto based sites there's a high chance ETH will be being used. Whether it's game based app which gives you the option to buy native tokens through ETH or buying any new coin using ETH as intermediary. BTC is primarily considered a safe asset which people like to HODL with hopes of future appreciation, they are not using it much on day to day basis.
  • Blockchain rival- ETH seems quite stabe as the most preferred blockchain and I don't see any contender challenging it in the near future. ETH has a strong connected comunity which ensure updates are easier to implement which makes it even more versatile.
  • Caution- There are many good things going ETH's way however 1 thing which stops me investing a large amount in it at a time is lack of clarity in the max limit on tokens which can be issued. If there is no real defined limit one day this will lead to it's downfall thanks to inflation. Hope there's more clarity on this next year.

For backup purposes there has to be something besides eutherium for dapps and assets.  At the moment it isn't a big deal to use but if there is a real emergency that clogs up etherium or even crashes it then you won't be able to get your assets out.  I found Tron interesting as an alternative or a deversification tatic.

I don't see a reason why etherium won't continue to dominate even if it isn't the best option.

eherum will surely be the main guy and also in many days moths and years to come by. looking at the Top 100 Cryptocurrencies by Market Capitalization bitcoin was first and etherum was second. and also looking at Top 100 Tokens by Market Capitalization the first token was based on the omni network while the rest like the next twenty tokens was based on ethrum so this shows how much etherum has been and will be used.

and also since the ethrum is very dynamic many more users will continue to be drawn out of it and thus it will continue to be there and thus its dominance  will remain.

i think that since many new projects are usually or usually start small many of them will still depend on the ethrum network to function and thus there might notbe a bigger blockchain network anytime soon.

Years back from today, when I worked as a chef and had very minimal knowledge about this new monetary system rising one of my developer friend told me that Ethereum will kick-ass Bitcoin and will own the market because of it’s wide developer base. Ethereum has employees from all around the world and these people all add their own little golden nugget to the whole system, that is the main reason why it’s so productive and multifaceted the Ethereum blockchain. It’s just my opinion, but I see even bigger dominance in the future, at least in the dApps area for sure, but their team is always improving as anything else, with time, so I am excited about the crypto-explosion it will cause when the Ethereum is going to be around a grand in $. Other projects are not so promising I guess, lacking the professional background Eth has. Maybe I can point out Tron and XLM. They are still childrens in the crypto-world so I see them growing up sooner or later.

This is very good research and i like the sound of it.

1. from the look of the market i will say etherum will continuin its dominance for a very long time, but bitcoin will still be top in terms of the price chart since bitcoin is more generally accepted than etherum most or everyone will still need and use bitcoin in some way and thus the price of bitcoin will surely to rise. and since the eth blockchain supports the ERC-20 it will still be used in development in a long time coming, so these two are like the sun and moon of the crypto ecosystem. they both help to give life and meaning to the cryptosystem.

2. for now, i don't really think there is any that will go higher than eth but in the future may be because with the evolvement of science and technology everything is possible and there is no limit to anything.

3. i will say that with new tech such as the libra of facebook, the cryptosystem might face more bend to the reason why it was created, and also that with the rise of new policies and such the cryptosystem is no longer becoming anonymous any longer. it seems that things are changing very fast.

i just pray and hope for better things and better days ahead for the cryptosystem.

I think Ethereum will remain at the forefront as a platform for developers for a long time. There are platforms that make your life a little easier, but they are incomplete, abandoned or have never been launched. For now, Ethereum is the "default" system to build DApps. In addition, if you want to predict the market, you must be aware of the activity of the developers. Believe me, I am a developer.

Please rectify the heading of this task. I believe it should read "Will Ethereum be King?". This is necessary as there are a lot of Crowdholders with English as a second language. Hence, they're gonna understand it very differently compared to those of us who speak it as a first.

Ethereum will definitely still be king. The stats presented only show the officially recognized tokens on Coinmarketcap. On platforms such as Kyber Network, Bancor, IDEX and stateofthedapps.com, the number of ethereum-based tokens and projects are astounding! A new ERC20-based token seems to be introduced every single day. I have signed up for the newsletter of ICO marks and do receive about 2 or 3 newsletters every week forecasting trending ICOs, upcoming ICOs and the best ICOs by weekly return on investment. A lot of these projects featured are ethereum-based. Look at the pic below.

I'm sure you recognise CannaCor and LOLTOKEN, with the former posting a recent task on Crowdholding and the latter posting a task here some months ago. All of them use erc20 tokens.
I believe Ethereum is going to continue its dominance. If bitcoin is to ever disappear (which I don't think will happen though), the cryptocurrency world won't cease to exist because we have Ethereum. On CMC, Bitcoin has the highest market cap ($121.3 billion) but the market cap of Ethereum ($13.5 billion) combined with that of other ethereum-based tokens (Tether, USDC, BAT, etc) gives a massive figure which can arguably rival that of BTC. In the near future, I believe Ethereum's market cap can cross Bitcoin's.

The stats below are from State of the DApps. It shows the top trending blockchains being adopted at the moment, the number of projects using them, the number of daily active users and the daily volume of money traded among them (visit the site to see this one). Even though the daily volume of money traded is quite small ($40.28 million as at the time of writing) it's surely going to grow in a few years.

You can see the fastest growing blockchain platforms from the stats above. The closest to the Ethereum blockchain is EOS. I was surprised when I saw that. Also, one of the newest and fastest-growing blockchains is the Klaytn blockchain. I don't see anyone surpassing the Ethereum blockchain. With the blockchain supporting fast transactions, various networks (ERC20, ERC511, etc.) and easy adaptation to build any DApp, not this century. Who knows, maybe in the 22nd century.

Yes ethereum will be king for a long time. Eth2 isnt far away. Increased tps will benefit a lot of users and many blockchains bioasting higher tps will go into oblivion.

I think that ethereum will be used for the kind of projects who have a kind of cryptocurrency integrated in their app to use it there.

Ethereum will continue to rule the dapp blockchain world. The most of the blockchain projects are based on Ethereum and hence most of the developers are engaged on this blockchain platform. No any other blockchain is going to beat it in the recent time..

If we talk about the future, I think Stellar can come close to Ethereum as this is fast, secure and cost friendly blockchain which is developed by the same person who had co-created Ripple.. There are many dapps are bassed on Stellar blockchain in recent and I hope this number is going to increase very fast in recent future.

I believe Ethereum will continue to dominate for the near future. The more tokens that are created, the weaker each will be (more competition) but the ETH blockchain will stay strong. However, there is a chance Ripple/XRP could catch up. There seem to be a lot of banks partnering with Ripple already and once everything is put in place and operational, Ripple will grow (.probably in 3-5 yrs)

Honestly, when it's comes to the decentralized dapps on block chain, Ethereum is King and I don't see any projects taking over anytime soon. I think the dominance will continue for a long time.

That is not to say it Ethereum can't be surpassed. Aeternity is one such project that can surpass Ethereum, all things being equal.

Dean Walsh guru

Don't listen to me because of who I am, I'm nobody like everone else.

When it comes to blockchain based decentralized apps I don't see much possibility of anything else surpassing Ethereum in the foreseeable future. Between number of developers, dapps and tokens and users with funded wallets - as well as hash rate and established security of the technology - its just too much of a network effect for anything else to have a chance I think.

But there is always a possibility of something different surpassing it, whether that is something decentralized but not blockchain with some big advantage because of that, or something focussed on payments or some other niche apart from dapps.
