Hello Crowdholders,

Today we would love to introduce you to Themisia, a virtual nation founded on the enightenment principles of liberal democracy.

While the project has been two years in the making, we are still very early stage and are still building the founding team and board of advisors as we progress towards being ready to begin development.

Problem

Our lives are becoming progressively more dependent on powerful technologies that expand our ability to communicate, provide economic value to the world, and gain social status. We are, however, surrendering the fundamental rights recognised by our local liberal democracies in order to adhere to the "Terms of Service" of the privately owned platforms. In a future world where the vast majority of our lives will be spent within these privately owned digital spaces, our repuations, livelihood and social belonging will be entirely subject to Terms of Service that offer no protections against arbitrary seizure and destruction of accounts and content, and no fair and impartial trial if accused of breaking rules. We are sleep walking into what is effectively an authoritarian cyber nation.

Solution

Themisia is a vision for a virtual nation founded on the principles of liberal democracy, with every citizen protected by a constitution that recognises one's fundamental rights to life (perpetual digital identity), liberty (freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right to a fair trial, innocence before proven guilty, etc) and private property (your profile, accounts, uploaded content, record of followers, likes, etc). These rights are protected by a robust, decentralized and autonomous court system.

Entrepreneurs who build platforms and businesses within Themisia will be able to offer to their users fundamental rights that other platforms cannot, and then have all serious user arbitration delegated to the Themisian courts, removing a huge weight of the shoulders of entrepreneurs who do not want to play dictator.

Themisians

Being a Themisian citizen is more than just being a user or having an account in an application. A Themisian is someone who believes in the values of the enlightenment. They value truth, justice and liberty. They understand that liberty is impossible without justice, and justice is impossible without truth. As they contribute to the Themisian court system, they bring more truth into the world, and as a consequence, more justice and liberty. To be a Themisian is to be a guardian of liberal democracy.

We Welcome Your Feedback

We spent 1.5 years working on our 60k+ word whitepaper, so the information here and on themisia.org is only a small fraction of the grand scope of the entire virtual nation. To help us finalise the whitepaper, though, we would very much appreciate your feedback with the aspects of the project that we have made public.

Go to our website to learn more about Themisia and then please leave your comment below answering all of the questions below:

  1. What are your first impressions of Themisia?

  2. Would you want to be a Themisian citizen?

Thank you for taking the time to review the project and we are looking forward to hearing your feedback.

This does sound fascinating.  I've recently been playing the Nation States browser game, and in some ways this feels like a more tangible extension and evolution of that.  I'm also a fan of Kleros, and decentralized judicial systems in general - so Themisia's court-system is very interesting to me - especially with it being multi-tiered.  And the extensiveness and scope of the tokenomics is also complelling.

With that said, from an investment perspective I would need to see it considerably further along in its development, as ultimately, great as it sounds, grand ideas are ten-a-penny in the crypto-space.  But definitely interested to see where you go with this.

And yes, I would consider potentially becoming a Themisian citizen...

I love this idea & if it can get off the ground could be the disruption the world is ready for. I might be conflating the two pages, but there is a feeling of "Liberal Democracy" which implies rule by majority using liberal ideas (seems classical liberal reading this). This might immediately turn off the growing number of frustrated "nationalists", many of whom simply want their individual rights respected. On the website it seems more of a republic, which it is called on the homepage. You may want to focus your marketing on "A republic (or system) that focuses on truth above all things to protect you & your individual work from slander, defamation & deplatforming." I might suggest changing this line in marketing: "They understand that liberty is impossible without you, an individual unique person. Your liberty is impossible without justice, and justice is impossible without truth." If my assumptions are correct reading the homepage & semantics are the issue I would certainly join this project.

I believe this could be a great product. I do believe in the values of the enlightenment. I understood that liberty is impossible without justice, and justice is impossible without truth.

I went through this website and I have to say..It is super crazy. You guys must have done lots of research to start a project like this one. But the concept of decenteralized becomes centeralized when one joins to your nation where he has abide by your set of rules. The 80/20 system is basically a better solutions for most problems. How to join your nation?? That's not yet decided upon..it's seems. However, I have joined myself to your network through telegram.

This sounds like an interesting idea...based on what I read on your website. However, it seems that, as currently proposed, only those social media platforms and other websites which choose to join Themisia will be regulated by the Themisia court system. So...there will be the internet within Themisia, and then the internet outside of it. How will you incentivize these other websites and social media sites to join Themisia? Or will you build or encourage the building of similar sites within the Themisia system, and then encourage internet users to join that network of sites? I would suggest that the quickest way to go about it would be to encourage building and growing of sites within Themisia, also of course recruiting users, then when it is big enough, encourage already established outside sites (like, say, Facebook) to join. As for your second question, I would want to be a citizen. I think. But if this is a "justice" system, what sorts of punishments would be meted out? Banishment from a particular site? Banishment from the entire Themisia system of sites (and thus being cut off from half or all of one's online presence?). And lastly...a caution. Beware of giving the meting of "justice" to an unregulated crowd. It can get nasty. As an example, on Reddit, there has been mass miscarriages of justice by the crowd, as in when they misidentified the Boston bomber, for example. So...I would at least have those who make high-level decisions go through some sort of vetting process, to make sure they have the credentials and knowledge to adequately carry out justice. Otherwise it would be the equivalent of, say, a plumber, electrician, or data entry clerk giving testimony at a trial about the fingerprints found at the scene of a crime. Or worse yet, working as the detective in charge of investigating the crime.

My first impression is that it seems like an incredible opportunity to be able to opt in to a virtual nation. I am immediately wondering who enforces the law, by what means? Taking part in themisian democracy sounds like an amazing social experiment. I myself am not attracted to this but I imagine someone being able to publish their works in a security state to a nation that will hold them up. It is heartwarming and I may want to participate just to be able to help lift up people that need the justice of a virtual nation.

What are your first impressions of Themisia? Sounds great, nice concept checking the facts is essential in this day age as it seems we are immersed in a world of nonsense disguised as facts, and at the end day the the truth is important. Would you want to be a Themisian citizen? Where do I sign up?

the first impression I felt was like reading Bitcoin white paper , this was a broader way of thinking about inequality of society and the plan you put to establish would be definitely a success :) congrats :)

My first impression of this virtual Nation is for sure I want to be there. A very nice project with a point of view of making things different and simple. Trusting people and operations. As a citizen I find very valuable that all us believe and understand so common concepts like "liberty is impossible without justice, and justice is impossible without truth" I definitely dream with a society like this and of course want to be a proudly Themisian

What are your first impressions of Themisia? I think the ideas are certainly very interesting. I have been thinking about this a lot lately, and I think it's certainly in the current zeitgeist and news, with Google and Facebook and Twitter basically controlling so much of the world's content and data. I think there is a growing resistance to this authoritarian control that a few companies appear to posses over our digital lives, GDPR being perhaps the most profound recent example of this. I think two questions I have are: 1) How do you see Themisia compared to a body such as the European Union? I think there is certainly a growing movement in this group to push back against the will of large multinational tech corporations, and the EU probably possesses the greatest power to do so, out of any body with the will to do so (obviously governments like the US and China don't care that much about the digital rights of their citizens). I'm interested to understand what benefits Themisia brings to outweigh the lack of power you're going to possess at the outset, compared to the likes of the EU. Or perhaps how you will seek to influence governments like the EU? 2) I was a little confused on your website, since the first thing that I saw (the hero banner at the top of the page), talks about an Internet of Facts and fact-checking, which appears to have nothing to do, or very little to do, with what you've outlined here. Perhaps it's worth rewording that banner, since it's the most prominent text on your page? Would you want to be a Themisian citizen? I think at the moment, I'm more interested in discussing the ideas behind this movement and how you seek to effect change, before I would consider committing to any project like this. Also, certainly if you're using the term "citizen", people are going to become very nervous about the legal status, double-citizenship etc. Nobody wants to jeopardize their passport for a virtual nation which is barely in its infancy, you know what I mean?

Who defines what is just and true in this virtual world? Each human mind is diverse just as the different societies in the world. The result is that there is no universal conception of justice, liberty and truth.

What are your first impressions of Themisia? I'm immediately obsessed with it and want to take part. I think your mission is just, your vision is strong and your cause is mighty! Maybe I'm being too dramatic, but overall, I love the idea. Would you want to be a Themisian citizen? Absolutely. I would want to fact check all day and all night.

The first impression of Themisia is confusion because it's like a game(sin city) without the funny part of the game, maybe cab be useful for research on human behavior but at that point is Themisia who should pay for using it. Reading the About section in the website I didn't understood the purpose of the project and considering it will be a time consuming activity there should be some thing to attract people and make them stay to keep the number of people high. I think this project can be useful if connected to gaming digital distribution platforms with million of users and the users use real or virtual money to buy gaming-related items. Now, as an adult person I will not register on Themisian because I see it as a virtual parallel life and with the stress and speed of today life I don't need more compliance. Maybe when I was 15 I could have tried it if there was an incentive, like communities of forums that have a scope in a certain field.

It sounds like a great idea howerver i believe there is lots of research and trial and error reports that need to be completed to ensure that people will be getting the service that you promise. I just dont think you should sell an idea until its doable and you have proof that it actually works. If i had proof i might try.

1 The website seems very nice and easy to navigate. The information is available immediately. As soon as one enters the page, there is all the information we need as users. What I do notice, is the use of pastel colors, is as sober. Maybe they should redefine the colors to use for the brand. Make it a little more eye-catching, especially for young people. 2 Yes, I would like to be a citizen. I like these utopian projects of freedom and virtual nations. Other projects already exist, such as liberland and decenterurion. It would be great if they had an MVP available. Or at least in Alpha mode, to make more attractive to investors or users who would like to be citizens.

Crypto enthusiast!!! My opinion matters too!!!!

VERY NICE PROJECT INDEED!!! My first impression are splitted of: - Themisia as website: Nice UI!!! I like it very much...simple, effective, it looks professional with great color combination catching visitors eye. It loads fast in desktop browser and in cellphone browser too. Shown info is very clear and readable...Is one of the best site designs i´ve reviewed here at Crowdholding. - Themisia as virtual nation: great project too. The world nowadays is plenty of virtual nations projects and everyone is trying to make a difference. Themisia concept is in the right way indeed but there two things i have noticed that makes your project a little confusing and makes me think twice before i try to make myself a themisian: description of project sounds more like a virtual judicial system more than a virtual nation and to become a citizen we must pay a monthly "fee" so depending on fee payed citizens will have different kinds of access levels to Themisia "goods" ...i think description of project should be redesign or, at least, need to explain more clearly the facts Themisia is right now: a virtual nation or a virtual judicial system, i will like it will be one of them, but not two at same time...personal taste, lets say...and about "fees"...is your final goal is to attract the most possible ammount of followers i think paying a fee will be a lock in every possible way...i think you can find another way to "monetize" your system in order to support it, you even have your own cryptocurrency "Kingsilver"...you can make great things with that. Been right now a themisian? At least not me, for now. But it seems a very promising project. Keep it up and good luck...

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't have a choice of various terms of service on one platform. If Facebook wants to compete with various terms of service it is voluntary on thier part. They could offer you a choice. I think it is an interesting concept but I don't think there is one silver bullet to the concept of who controls what is communicated.

1. Excellent concept. Although, for a virtual nation it's awfully hard to find it's constitution. I've been looking on website, even WP abstract does not indicate where the constitution is. Truth, justice and liberty sound great but too general. IDK what you mean. 2. I'll know if I want to be a citizen after I read the constitution.

I think creating anything for the future is a great idea. I like the idea of these things being developed for the 2nd world... or whatever you want to call it. What I don't like is the name, Themisian citizen doesn't have a nice ring to it, I think it's a solid name for the project, but I feel as though the name may need some work for other use cases.

Wouw, great website, great design! I think this Themisia website is one of the best website that i rated in here crowdholding. I think as far as i remember i have rated more than 10-12 website in here. You have the greatest graphics, and the visual. That photo told me lots of think and made me think about the technology. I rate your website 10/10. You have one big problem, when i check your telegram channel there is only 160 followers. You should have an airdrop or some bounties and raise your follower there because big telegram channel would bring your project trust.

In general, I feel positive about the themes discussed in the above description and on the Themisia website. The two aspects I feel most positive about are the "Internet of Facts" idea as well as consumer's (content producer's?) rights. I do also feel somewhat conflicted about Themisia in three ways. From the title description focused on "Internet of Facts" I was assuming that meant a website that rates, ranks and emphasizes content based on facts and reliability of information. However the description sounds more like a virtual judicial / legal system. I feel I'm not able to put two and two together here. Secondly, while I support digital users' rights. I also am conflicted that along with those rights should be responsibility as well. In a true Internet of Facts users will be taking responsibility for the reliability of the information they post. Information on conventional social media outlets is many times: wildly inaccurate, and created by writers that have no credibility, expertise, or practical experience with what they write. Thirdly, in tone, Themisia really comes across as a scholarly, intellectual virtual nation. I am concerned that this approach will alienate people, and frankly the people that are posting unreliable content online. It might have a bit stronger impact if it is more approachable and down to earth. Even with these conflicted feelings, I believe I am part of the demographic Themisia is marketing toward (so some of my criticisms might be partially self-criticism). I do not think the issues expressed above are necessarily a mistake of the Themisia team, but part of the complexities that makes decentralized content monitoring difficult. In that regard though, I hope to see the Themisia platform in action, and how it might address some of the issues from my perspective.

The idea and concept are brilliant. The website looks clean and well-designed. The flowery words actually catches your attention albeit a bit cringe sometimes, but I get it. That's really what you're going for. I'm skeptical on how this will be implemented but I do wish you the best.

1 What are your first impressions of Themisia? The web seems to me that it has a good design and invites to deepen. A medium of impressions seems to me that it has much to do and I do not find the value or the sense of creating a virual nation like that 2 Would you want to be a Themisian citizen? Not with what I have seen, but I would not mind if I saw a clear benefit of being part of this virutal nation. I think I would have to look for something that could benefit the nation, the citizens and the community ... something with the part of tokens ...

Its a nice project but not unique because Decenturion are doing something similar. I like the fact that you said it virtual because, come on, its not easy to start a nation. Its nothing new. I am finding it difficult to picture the implementation considering the fees and all that. I wouldn't like to be a citizen because I don't think I belong there.

I gotta say I love the idea and concept. The website looks clean and well-designed. The flowery words actually catches your attention albeit a bit cringey sometimes, but I get it. That's really what you're going for. I'm skeptical on how this will be implemented but I do wish you the best. As for being a Themisian citizen, the fees makes me want to step back a little, especially since again, I'm still skeptical that the whole thing would be a success. But theoretically, in a perfect scenario, I could see myself being one. We'll see.

I liked the idea from the start. As I was reading through the difference in memberships and at the end there was Angel and Titan nothing different between the two but they would like you to spend an extra $500 a month! It's not all expenses paid if you gotta pay 500 more a month extra to just to eat one time nah I'm good on that though. Upon reading the article,I have found out that this project has a great concept.A great concept that it introduces the value of truth, justice and liberty. The principle is very likely. This project shows eagerness to open peoples eyes around the globe about internet facts. The facts that is obviously rub by some people spreading fake news using the internet. The aim of this project is very unique because it teaches people how to live life in truth, justice and liberty. If I could be given a chance to be a Themisian citizen,my answer is "YES".

I didnt read the whitepaper but when i opened the site and start reading, I was very touched by these words "publicly owned social media court system where cases can be created and truth-claims submitted, verified and disproven. The truth that organically emerges from the combined contributions of citizens is then stored in a searchable blockchain database for use in future court cases, and any other application built within Themisia." But for becoming a Themisian citizen I have to pay every month is something i didnt understand, I think everyone have to be part of this community freely and when a court is set for a hearing there should be a small amount of fee so everyone can participate in it and give his opinion about the case. The project is very big and good but it need a good study and understanding but i think more people involved in it will be good for this community, and will be more helpful for everyone.

The establishment of a social media court is a good idea. But it will take a very troublesome process in the future. the different language-religion-cultural environment of citizens in this community depending on the different answers will be reflected in this court. But a basic reality of rights and freedoms will be by everyone. In fact, it is clear that such a formation is increasingly needed as Internet users become increasingly more aware of their online privacy and freedoms.  I like the idea of creating stable coins using real precious metals. But who does not understand the reputation process to be carried out by? I didn't like the level jump with money. I think it will make the distinction between the rich and the poor among the citizens. (Or I didn't understand this) after much thinking on the subject of citizenship. ! (I should read 150-sheet white paper exactly)

I think this is a fantastic and necessary project that will potentially help every internet-using person. Major corportations will not like this idea, if they are harvesting our information and using it to gain Intel and make progits. The individuals, like me, have very little rights when it comes to using company's apps or websites and Themisia can give us back our power and protection. I would love to be a Themisian, and I read your basic ideas and principals to my boyfriend, and he thinks it is a genius idea too. Don't listen to me because of who I am, I'm nobody like everone else.

This is a beautiful vision for addressing concerns about the way we are allowing the nature of the digital world to undermine our values and our rights, all without choosing to transform society in this particular way but instead just sleepwalking into it because of inaction. But on the other hand I think it is highly unlikely that such a grand and broad vision will ever become a significant practical reality. It all seems to be about social media communities, but I see no mention of which ones. Something like this can work only, I think, if it is associated with popular apps / platforms which people want to use. Will you make your own? Will you try to get established platforms to adopt your constitution and use your courts? I see no mention of any practical aspect of this, or how if could be adopted or who by, only the broad vision. I would certainly be interested in a membership if I thought there was any practical purpose to be served in having one.

liberty is a funny thing. we often talk about it but do we ever really experience it? In order to be truly free we would need to live in the absence of rules and i very much doubt, as much as we say we might, that anyone would want to live in that society. It would become somewhat anarchic and the likelihood is lawlessness would ensue and unfortunately the nature of man has never responded well to such situations. this i where i think the logic of Themisia is a little flawed. The statement "everyone within a community being able to agree what is true" smacks of totalitarianism to me, I really think what you are trying to promote is good values but surely at the very heart of liberty is ones right to his own opinion? even when that opinion doesn't necessarily sit well with the crowd. Look, i get it and more over i actually quite like some of the ethos of Themisia but i think the court system idea needs work from what i have read. The suggestion that everyone will agree on something and that then becomes the "truth" is fundamentally flawed in my opinion. What if the crowd decides that being transgender is wrong for example. does that then make it 'the truth' that we should ostracize people who are transgender, exclude them? I use transgender as an example but really it could be anything. Should we all stop eating ham and pineapple pizzas or listening to death metal because they are not popular with the crowd? Am i a bad citizen because i own the David Haselhoff album collection? (just kidding :)) But i digress a little, Like i said i do really like some of the ideas of Themisia. earning tokens for 'acting in good faith' (provided we get the nuances of the court system correct to make sure that 'good faith' is inclusive and open minded) the court system, although it does sound like it could be quite complicated and the 'punishments'are not really made clear on the website, might help to maintain civility within the group (possibly not 'liberty' though?) I also like the idea of a currency backed by precious metals, as the USD used to be. This should create a solid and reliable currency that citizens can use and interact with and be confident that the value will remain strong and the diversification of that currency for tasks such as voting deeds and trademarks might be fantastic provided there is suitable support from developer and practitioner. I value privacy quite highly also and i very much agree that big companies are starting to monopolize and start to have too much sway over the powers that be and that we need to take back control of our data. Why does google need to watch your every move, including map tracking you and then sell that information to the highest bidder? because those people are their 'trusted partners'(trusted partners that it is almost impossible to find any information on!) So the opportunity to retake my privacy and to operate in an environment where my privacy is held in high esteem is something which talks to me, sings even! Would i like to become a Themisian? maybe. I certainly wouldn't mind being a part of discussing the theological side of it. I really think rather than liberty, which is in itself subjective, what you are taking about is honesty, decency and compassion for your fellow citizens. So maybe you should promote this ideal a bit more and i do think you would attract the kind of people, i think, you are trying to attract.

Sometimes, thoughts could taste like dark chocolate

Looks like Utopia to me, except it could come into existence as its entire existence is digital. The problem with the idea/concept of Utopia is, most of us have become used to our imbalance lives and to create a world where every thing is just, every thing is in balance, everything is perfect is next to impossible, but I would definitely love to be a part of the nation, in which people are at least trying to develop something pure.

This is a fantastic step forward towards building a virtual nation based on the values of one's privacy. I was able to gain a better understanding with this information provided and can't wait to see this projects progress in the future.

First of all Themisia is a new product created and its vision are great and ambitious. Yes nowadays we do live in cyber world where technology is everything to us even for a two year old and this trend is getting worse than before where we as human really seldom talk even we were having family gatherings. We were so focused on our smartphone than to focus on other simple issue like having a friendly chat between family members and its worrying indeed. Thus with the introduction of Themisia, an approach on certain matter regarding values are being made priority. But to make it successful is much more easy words than action itself as it requires a lot of sacrifices among us to be involved. Mist of us just don't care about it generally.

What is your first impression of Themisia? First, I'm so excited to your project and I think this is amazing, but we want some more information about it you made republic on the digital world not real world I think. There are organizations, government, and more at every country. Would you want to be a Themisian citizen? I think I'll be interesting if I have much information about what I clear above.
